Quotes

  • The Artist is the person who makes life more interesting or beautiful, more understandable or mysterious, or probably, in the best sense, more wonderful.

    ~ George Bellows

There are painters who transform the sun into a yellow spot, but there are others who with the help of their art and intelligence, transform a yellow spot into sun.

    ~ Pablo Picasso

Yeesh

Man!  For reasons I don't entirely understand, I was TOTALLY unmotivated to complete these four cards.  Possibly because they are coincidentally all based on themes I consider "masculine" and I relate more to feminine, pretty themes.  Interestingly, these cards represent the first three men I've drawn in years, if ever, and I did them all for one swap.  Which isn't even really a particularly masculine swap.  I just happened to get in a group where the participants happened to pick themes that happened to be either overtly or subtly un-feminine.  Except one, which I could have taken in a softer, more estrogen-laced direction... but in the end, elected not to, so as to go with the testosterone flow.

The themes for this Pick A Theme were:

  • Figurative nude (the one that could have been feminine)
  • Samurai in armor
  • Animal skull
  • Paul Brady portrait (I don't even know who Paul Brady is, except a folk singer)

And here are my results, which I'm pretty happy with from a rendering and finishing standpoint, but which don't feel like they express as much ME as my work usually does.

The figurative nude has been censored for your PG-13 viewing pleasure. :)
