Tim Burton Rocks
My family and me drove 1.5 hours each way to Sacramento today, to see Tim Burton's Nightmare Before Christmas 3D, which is playing in select theaters in limited release. We own the DVD (and the video) and have seen this marvelous bit of stop-motion magic at least several dozen times before, but never in 3D. I told husband Tim, on the drive down, that I never thought I'd see the day when I'd volunteer to spend three hours in a car, and pay almost ten bucks a person, to see a movie I'd already seen a dozen times before, and could again at any time on our DVD player. But there you have it. Defying all logic and sense, I did exactly that.
I saw Nightmare on the big screen when it was first released but this was my first theater viewing of it since then, and it was my first ever viewing in 3D.
All I can say about the experience is WOW. It was soooo worth it, and then some! Tim Burton totally rocks! His Goth/cute fantasies just sit so right with me, and I admire and enjoy how he injects so much meaning and pathos into the silliest and darkest (on the surface, at least) of subject matter. Plus those silly characters are just so aesthetically pleasing and funny. How can you see them and not smile? And Danny Elfman's score on this one... {sigh.} From end to end, it's just an absolute pleaser.
Go see it for yourself, before it's gone for the year!!! I give this one two thumbs enthusiastically up, and so do my sons and husband!
